Sunday Lunch Distribution of sweets for Diwali

Annual Painting Competition Gift distribution during Daan utsav by Vivanta by Taj
Annual Painting Competition was organised at the Tagore Cultural Centre, by The Ladies Wing of the Bengalee Association.35 children from classes 5 to 10 participated in the painting competition held annually at the Bengalee Association. 2 of our participants won prizes. Each one of our students wrote out their dream gift and the angels from Taj fulfilled every child’s wish. The Taj staff came to our Resource Centre and personally gave their gifts to the children. Mothers Empowerment Programme Dasara Celebration
As part of the Mothers Empowerment Programme, ACT organized a team building event for the mothers. For
the first time, 18 mothers and Mrs.Mani went to a popular restaurant to have a delicious meal. The mothers loved the outing.

Internship by Management students of RIMS Dental Checkup by Mobident
Students from Ramaiah Institute of Management Studies/Sciences did a wonderful job during their Internship. They arranged the Files, arranged the books in the library, collected funds and cleaned the road outside the Resource Center.  Click here for photos.  Every year, we introduce our new mothers to all the rules and regulations that we follow in our Trust. We speak to them about the importance of their child’s education. Personal Hygiene Pre-Term Assessment for English Reading Skills

Goldman Sachs Project YOGA Session by Mimi Parthasarathy
 Volunteers from Goldman Sachs had a meaningful afternoon with our children preparing them for the job market. Fundraising at CGI 5K Walkathon organized by Sri Krishna Wellness Yoga and Cultural Center
Our senior children were invited to make presentations of their ACT journey in front of all the employees of CGI.The children were excited to give their presentations and in the evening they were provided with delicious dinner. Cookery Class French Volunteer's Classes
The PUC children learnt to cook yummy snacks during the summer holidays. The children themselves cleaned and washed the vegetables, cut them, mixed the various ingredients under their trainer’s supervision. These cookery workshops were held twice a week. Enfold Class ACT Exhibition
Once in 2 years, we invite the NGO, Enfold Proactive Health Trust to conduct special sessions for each child on the prevention and detection of Child Sexual Abuse. Sex Education for adolescents, and handling life changes at that age were handled by specialists. Click here for photos. [May 2017] We recently had an exhibition which was very different from other exhibitions. The children had to find their strongest skills like Karate, Cookery, Crafts , Computer skill etc and exhibit them to all our volunteers and mothers. House of Intelligences - Exhibition on Foundation Day Meghshala Classes
Howard Gardner of Harvard University has identified 9 distinct Intelligences. Our children exhibited those intelligences in which they are strong. Each room exhibited one intelligence with colourful charts and Fun activities. All the mothers, volunteers and children were able to find their dominant intelligence. Click here for photos. What’s new at the Government Tamil Higher Primary School and Government Kannada Higher Primary School? Birthday Celebration
Health Camp at GTHPS & GKHPS - A Medical Camp, sponsored by Thomson Reuters, was conducted by Saral Health. All the children underwent various tests like blood, urine, eye, dental and general checkups. As our academic year ends we usually conduct an Annual Volunteers Meeting at the Resource Center. All those volunteers who have completed almost a year of their activities with us, receive a Certificate highlighting their talents. It is also a time when we get one-on- one feedback on each child. What’s new at the Government Tamil Higher Primary School and the Government Kannada Higher Primary School? Birthday Celebration for the month of February
ISB For Good @ GTHPS Volunteers who are alumni of ISB, the Management School conducted English classes at the Government Tamil Higher Primary School.

New Acropolis’ painting project with ACT @GKHPS - 7 volunteers from the NGO, New Acropolis painted the walls of the Government Kannada Higher Primary School. This is an ongoing project that will continue into March.Click here for photos. [Feb  2017]

An Exhibition promoting Science @ GKHPS - Our First Science Exhibition was held in the GKHPS for all the children and the volunteers. Our science teacher coached 20 middle school children to explain simple experiments related to air, vacuum, Light, medical stethoscope and propulsion. Click here for photos. [Feb  2017]

End Term Assessment in English for all the children Incentives for Motivated Mothers
All the children who are in Elementary English, Flow of English, Hippocampus English and Reading Club programs undertook an end term exam to gauge their progress for the academic year 2016-’17. The test involved real time activities around the language. Click here for photos. [Feb  2017] Every mother of the Trust serves at the Resource Centre or Learning Centre doing admin tasks, general maintenance, or cooking snacks for the children. We felicitated 31 mothers who walked the extra mile for the development of all the children of the Trust. It’s raining Health at the Ashwini Charitable Trust Excursion to Kokkerebellur and Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary
Thomson Reuters along with Saral Health and Apollo Hospitals conducted a massive primary health drive for all the children from the 4 centers of the Trust. Every child’s Height, Weight, Blood and Urine samples were examined. Every child also got an Eye and Dental checkup. Based on the above, all the children got a Health card. Our in-house pediatrician then went through all the Reports and the interventions are underway. Click here for photos. [Feb  2017] 45 students, including High School and College going children, were taken on a zoological trip to the nearby sanctuary to understand migratory birds. Mr. Linge Gowda, the headman of Kokkerebellur, made a presentation about how man and bird have peacefully coexisted in his village for generations. In fact, during the I World War when there was a plague at the village, all the villagers migrated to a nearby village. When the migratory storks, ibis, cranes and pelicans came back for the nesting season instead of going to any other village they found their human brethren and settled down with them. [Jan 2017] 7 volunteers from Thomson Reuters spent a few hours with all the children of the Kannada School and the Tamil School. The volunteers spent half a day in each school. One volunteer was assigned to each class. The volunteer read out stories with a lot of interaction from the children. Maths test sheets were also created to assess each child’s level of proficiency in the subject. [Jan 2017]
What’s new at the Government Tamil Higher Primary School and the Government Kannada Higher Primary School? Special meals provided by Kala's family
Nadia Haton and her team sensitized the children about cleanliness and hygiene. This culminated in a major clean- up of the Kannada school grounds whereby the children learnt to segregate garbage and dispose waste in an eco friendly manner. Nadia also held meetings with the teachers of the Tamil School providing them with a Road Map for the future of the school. Birthday Celebration for the month of January Dance performance at U&I’s Volunteer Day
We had a birthday party for the children whose birthdays fall in the month of January. The Trust organizes a huge cake of 9 kilos which is cut by the birthday children. We also have a tradition whereby the birthday children take home a one kilo cake which they cut with their families. [Jan 2017] Some of our girls who have graduated from the U&I Academic Support Program were invited to perform at U&I’s Volunteer Day. 10 girls rendered the ever popular Jai Ho and some other Bollywood numbers to the volunteers, administrators and guests at the function. ACT was felicitated as U&I’s flagship project in spreading the message of volunteerism among youth in Bangalore. [Jan 2017]
Nadia Haton’s workshops Workshops conducted by our French sponsors from Blooming Trust
Nadia Haton of the Blooming Trust, conducted workshops for the core team who actively participate in the children’s activities. The new team consisting of some of the Board Members, the Program Manager, Program Coordinator, the teachers and co-ordinators of the Indiranagar Center and Government Schools and the Administrators were taken through several rounds of HR related processes to ensure the smooth running of all our activities. [Jan 2017] Denise Haton and Laurence, two of our volunteers from Blooming Trust conducted workshops for the children on creative thinking and expression. Primary and Middle School children created models using cardboard sheets and also created collages on various ideas. [Jan 2017]
Mothers Sports Day Dangal experience at Lido
Republic Day was celebrated with a difference at ACT. The senior children of the Trust, from classes I PUC to III year Degree,conducted a fun filled Sports Day for their mothers at the RBANM’s grounds. 75 mothers forgot their problems and returned to their innocent childhood as they encouraged each other to Run the 100 meters dash, or when they pulled with all their strength at the tug- of-war. Lemons fell off some of the spoons, and some mothers struggled with their sarees in the sack race. Bursting the Balloon and the all - time favourite Musical Chairs ticked many a funny bone in the spectators.[Jan 2017] The children of Middle School, High School and College along with their mothers were treated to Aamir Khan’s film, Dangal. All the children were inspired by the sheer determination and focus of the 2 Phagotsisters and their father’s untiring spirit to break away from the shackles of gender role discrimination. For the first time in their lives, the mothers saw a man encouraging women to succeed in the male dominated world that they deal with everyday. [Jan 2017]

Taj Wishing Wall (M.G.Road) Dance for Durga pooja at RBANM's Ground
Vivanta by Taj created a wishing wall where our children wished for the things they wanted. July month's Birthday Celebration 2016 Clothes Distribution by “Lets feed Bangalore”

Back to school with ACT accessories. All the new children who have been inducted into the Trust were gifted an Ashwini School bag, water bottle, stationery kit and Ashwini diary. Their mornings are spent in the Government Tamil Higher Primary School where they teach the children English and hobbies. In the afternoon they work with children of the Ulsoor center. Assessment for Flow of English Protein Mix
All the primary school children, including the new children who have joined the Trust this academic year, were assessed for English proficiency. Following this the children were grouped into Elementary, and advanced. The English Reading is then divided into Flow of English, Hippocampus English, and Reading Club. We are associated with Chippersage and Hippocampus Programs for our Reading activities. Click here for photos. [Jul 2016] Another batch of our home made power packer was made by our administrator ably assisted by volunteering mothers. We are very grateful to some of the mothers who clean 65 kilos of grains manually, dry roast them, get the mixture ground and store it in containers for the children to drink at the Trust after their classes. Science Exhibition at LC An Exhibition promoting Science and Reading
Our science teacher coached 20 middle school children to explain simple experiments related to air, vacuum, Light, and propulsion. The best exhibitor was a little girl who put the medical stethoscope together and explained its workings to adults with confidence and capability. She added that the automobile industry also uses a similar stethoscope to assess the health of run down engines! Click here for photos. [Jul 2016] Our First Science Exhibition and Reading Club Dramatizations were held in the Learning Center for all the children’s mothers and the volunteers. Children who successfully graduate from the Hippocampus Reading Program proceed to become members of the Reading Club which furthers their interest in reading for pleasure. The children chose their favourite books and dramatized portions of them for the audience: they wrote the dialogues, created self-explanatory posters and also acted in front of their peers and mothers. PWC Project Children’s “On - the - Spot Essay Writing and Drawing Competition” at Bengali Association
Volunteers from PWC spent a few hours with our children creating Thank You Cards and also empowered the children to read story books from our extensive children’s Library. Click here for photos. [Jul 2016] This year, our children won the Rolling Trophy at the Annual Essay and Drawing Competition organized by the Ladies Wing of Bengali Association. In the Essay Competition, the children had to write a Debate on either of 2 topics: “Does using Internet make you lazy or is it dangerous?, OR “Is Yoga popular in Western countries or in Eastern countries? “Save Environment Save Bangalore” was the favourite topic on which our children drew with great expression and enthusiasm. Promoting Physical Wellness: Vaccination against Typhoid “Animal Farm” at Jagruthi Theatre
96 Children were administered the Typhoid Booster dose by our team of pediatricians headed by Dr. Nitin Singh of the Newborn and Kids Clinic. We are very grateful to Gopika Biotech for giving us a huge discount on the vaccines. This booster dose will ensure that the children stay healthy in spite of water contamination during the monsoon. Kudos to Niranjan Chaudry for making the timeless political classic come alive with topical references to various Indian political figures and their populist agendas. Internship Program continues Cookery classes continue
3 French girls studying photography, economics at French universities are currently doing their internship with us. They teach jewellery making to the children of GTHPS and spend time with the Ulsoor children in the Learning Center. Click here for photos. Visit to Museum of Art and Photography Endorsing our Protein supplements
Middle school children were invited to participate in a Museum visit to initiate them in art appreciation. The most interesting activity was asking the children to create a new living creature based on their understanding of the exhibits at the Museum. They also had to name this new species. Mothers’ Empowerment Program Health Drive
The members of the Mothers’ Empowerment Program were taught how to start a self help group. Various craft ideas were also explored and taught to the mothers by one of our volunteers.

Music classes at ACT ACT Prefects’ Meeting
We are creating a music team at the Trust. The children were auditioned for it and now have weekly classes during the weekend. Click here for photos. [Jun 2016] There are 30 prefects who maintain the children’s discipline, check their regular attendance in classes, and meal times. The 4 Head Girls take decisions on what punishments to give the errant children. These punishments are usually proactive attempts to restore responsibility and dignity in the children. Summer Internship Birthday Celebration for the month of May 2016
50 MBA students from M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Management Studies each put in 9 man days of internship with us. Children turn Trainer for the managers of Thomson Reuters Mothers Meeting on Health Awareness
The ACT children conducted a workshop for the senior managers of Thomson Reuters in the art of making and made paper bags, candles of various colours and jewellery. The younger children made lovely collages as well. Click here for photos. [May 2016] Faculty from Enfold taught our mothers all about child sexual abuse, adolescent issues, and also helped create awareness about healthy lifestyle, health checkups and awareness about uterine and breast cancer amongst mothers who have crossed the age of 30. Science experiments conducted by “Becoming I Foundation” Workshop on Flow of English Software
Every Saturday, the “Becoming I Foundation” enables the children to relate to science by making them perform experiments from daily life experiences. A small in-house exhibition is also arranged by them once in a few weeks. Click here for photos. The software is used by the college going children of the Trust so that they can in turn teach English to the younger children in ACT… and what better way to learn something than teach the same to someone else? Cookery Workshop Mothers Empowerment Programme -Tie and Dye
All the children from Middle School to College learnt to cook yummy snacks during the summer holidays. Some of these items were: Coin paratha, samosa, dahi vada, khitchdi and pakoda, carrot halwa, phulka and dum aloo, and vegetable burger. The children themselves cleaned and washed the vegetables, cut them, mixed the various ingredients under their trainer’s supervision. These cookery workshops which were held thrice a week empowered many of our children to choose the Hospitality Industry as their future career . Click here for photos. [May 2016] The mothers are now learning to make Tie and Dye fabric leading to pretty table runners, small table cloths, and small cloth bags. Career Guidance workshop by Fidelity Personal Grooming workshop
15 Volunteers from Fidelity shared their stories of pain and planned success with the High School and College children. Two students were assigned to each volunteer. The volunteers had varied interests despite their common corporate link. They helped our children to plan their Career Road Map, judge their skills and strengths, and choose a study plan to suit their dominant intelligence. The workshop included a visit to the corporate office so that the children could have a focused goal to work towards. Click here for photos. [May 2016] The High School and College children were initiated in the skill of personal grooming in order to blend seamlessly in mainstream society. The workshop had many fun exercises including choosing colors that match one’s complexion and matching clothes with the appropriate accessories. Summer Camp Project on Indoor Garden using recycled Plastic
During Summer vacation we encourage the children to come to our After School centers to play games and interact with friends. Monopoly, Scrabble, puzzles and other board games are their favourite. Click here for photos. [April 2016] 8 volunteers from New Acropolis volunteered half a day teaching our children how to create an indoor garden by recycling used water bottles and plastic cans. Each child has taken ownership of the upkeep of one such plant.

Students learning IXL Parents Meeting
The High School children who have successfully completed the Hippocampus Maths program graduate to use the computer driven learning module of IXL. Enfold classes on personal safety Filling up the Admission form for the year 2016-‘17
Once in 2 years, we invite the NGO, Enfold Proactive Health Trust to conduct special sessions for each child on the prevention and detection of Child Sexual Abuse. Sex Education for adolescents and handling life changes at that age were handled by specialists. Science Lab at Government Tamil Higher Primary School We have set up a Science lab at the school to make the children relate easily to the scientific concepts. Employability Skills program Mothers’ Empowerment Program: Basket Making
As part of our Employability Skills program, students take on leadership positions to assist in the smooth administration of the Trust. Students Using IXL Software Japanese Volunteers teach Origami
High School children graduate to our computer assisted learning programs via IXL software where each student logs on to a system and solves a customized maths test. The immediate feedback has enabled our children to stay motivated. We also receive regular congratulatory updates from IXL whenever the children do us proud.  Click here for photos. Origami, which is almost a sacred skill now, has come to our LC through the dedication of our Japanese volunteers. Japanese Volunteers gifted Play Equipment, Harmonica, Stationery and Mats CGI Sports Fest
Our team of Japanese volunteers: Sumie Kubo, Maki Kumakl, and Masako Amada gifted colourful interlocking mats for the main hall at the Learning Center. Our children are able to read and write thanks to the washable mats. The Japanese team also gifted play equipment. These are at the Aanganwadi in the Tamil Government School.  Click here for photos. Christmas @ ACT Trip to Infosys Mysore
Our 7 feet tall Christmas tree was decorated by the children  Click here for photos. [Dec 2015]  38 children and 4 mothers were invited to the Infosys Mysore campus where 22 classy rooms were arranged for the group. Bicycles were freely available for the children to ride at all times around the campus. The food was awesome and affordable and the staff who took care of the group, went beyond the call of duty. Protein Mix Yoga Class
Our protein mix has established a reputation of raising the immunity of the children protecting them from colds, coughs, and fever. It also enhances memory and builds strong bones. 10 mothers of the ACT children volunteer to prepare this, once in 2 months, under the able guidance of Mrs. Mani.  Click here for photos. Sunday Lunch Karate Grading
Since food is a huge requirement in the lives of our children, we organize special unlimited biryani every Sunday.  Click here for photos . [Nov 2015] Every quarter, our Karate Master and trainer conducts grading exams for the children and awards them the next belt if the children have qualified for the same. Synopsys Project at Hoodi Shool Gruha Pravesham at new Learning Centre
Our last engagement with the Hoodi school was to paint the classrooms, the compound wall, clean up the playground and plant saplings along the inner perimeter of the compound. We have a delightful library at ACT, consisting of several thousand titles that would interest any young reader. On Sundays, our college going ACT student volunteers as Librarian issuing books for children to read over the week. We had a special prize distribution session for the most avid readers at ACT. The Librarian was given a special award for patiently checking out books, testing the children’s comprehension of the stories they had read. French film makers visit School and College Girish K.G Distributed Gifts
Following their internship, our French volunteers, sent 2 of their friends who are making a documentary on ACT. Virginie, a French documentary producer and film director, Camille are currently working on producing a web documentary showing French children and Indian children’s lives at school and in their community. They followed our senior children’s life in college, their old school and the community where they live. This documentary could give all the children at Ashwini a great opportunity to understand how French children study and live. Click here for photos. Birthday Celebration with Hyatt and Distribution of Birthday Cakes Karate Grading
The Hyatt team came with a huge strawberry cake which was then cut by 12 children who were celebrating their birthdays in July. Each birthday child also took home a one kilo cake to celebrate with their respective families. Click here for photos Grading exams were held for 30 children at the Resource Center. Craft Exhibition at Adobe Tech Park Hippo Campus English Star Training
The handmade craft items made by our children were exhibited at the offices of Adobe. Handmade candles, painted diyas, handmade paper bags and fashion jewellery added colour to an already festive occasion. Click here for photos Year 2 of the Hippocampus was flagged off with an intensive day of Training conducted for the senior children of the Trust, the U&I volunteers and some of our regular volunteers. Techniques in promoting Reading for comprehension, Reading for Pleasure, use of Dictionary, and language based activities were part of the learnings. Click here for photos
Nutritious Health Programme Drawing Competition at Bengalee Association
40 students were invited to participate in a Health and Hygiene Awareness Program organized by students of Mount Carmel College. Height and Weight per child were tracked and matched with mainstream health requirements. The children were also informed about dental hygiene and the benefits of following a Balanced Diet. Hoodi Kannada Government SchoolSince ACT has adopted the Hoodi Kannada Government school we gave them an orientation on the activities run by the Trust. Every child was given an application form and a unique ID number. Sandals were distributed to 246 children. New Van to Drop Tamil Government School StudentsA van has been organized to pick up and drop those children from the Tamil School who live in the ISRO and Domlur areas. Shivakumar, the driver plies a van in the morning and evening to ensure the safety of the children. ACT pays him for his services. Sahana's Birthday Celebration French Interns:
Sahana Mukherjee organized a special lunch party for all the children on the occasion of her Birthday. The lunch was also extended to our volunteers who take Maths for the children since a Maths orientation workshop was organized on the same day. Fidelity Project PWC Project
Fidelity Cares has been conducting a series of summer activities. This time they created portrait photos of each child and also taught the children how to make photo frames for the photos. Distribution of School Bags & Shoes for the Students U & I Summer Camp

ACT turns 15!
The trust was registered as an NGO on the 1st of April 2000. As ACT turned 15 we gave goodie bags of provisions to the mothers of all the children. Each bag contained 4 kgs of rice, 1 kg each of sooji, sugar, tuvar dhal, and 1 litre of refined sunflower. In the evening we had a Paani poori party for all.Click here for photos

Van drops children home after classes The van continues to drop the children home after the vacation activities and classes are over in the evening. This is especially for the girls who come from far flung areas and find it difficult to reach home early due to the vagaries of public transport.Click here for photos Learning team spirit through Board Games was the theme behind this year’s Summer Holidays. Monthly Birthday Celebrations Presentation Skills workshop
11 children with individual cakes for the children to take home and celebrate with their families. Hyatt International team honoured the occasion with their presence. The finale had 11 children create PPT slides and short presentations on interesting topics like the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World”, Sachin Tendulkar, Narendra Modi, the festivals of Karnataka, national festivals, Harry Potter, Indian Mathematics and kennels for stray dogs. “Art for Creative Expression” Cookery Workshops
“Art for Creative Expression” workshops are being held, for the artistically inclined children, by noted artist, Anuradha Nalapat and our volunteer, Sheela Panikal. Besides introducing various techniques the trainer also empowered the children to think beyond boundaries and touch their creative potential. The workshops are held twice a week and include chaats, Paani poori, Rasmalai, sandwiches, and dahivadaas using bread as the base! Liverpool Football Club fans in Bangalore organized a “Clean up the Neighbourhood” drive outside our Resource Center. Children and volunteers teamed up,armed with brooms, dust pans, gloves and sanitized masks . Almost 70 young volunteers from U&I have been teaching academics on alternate days for the High School children and English to the middle school children. After spending hours with mock exams for the SSLC students, the volunteers had a feedback session with their wards. Harikrishnan treats us to a sumptuous lunch with his first salary. Harikrishnan who completed his Diploma in Computer Science through NTTF has started working with a Networking firm. Van drops children home after classes Annual Volunteers’ Meet and Lunch
We have organized a van to drop the children home in the evening after the classes are over. This is especially for the girls who come from far flung areas and find it difficult to reach home due to the vagaries of public transport.Inaugural Parents meeting at the Hoodi Government Primary School: Our first meeting with the children of
classes IV, V, and VI who will be absorbed into the Trust from the coming academic year. We had a fantastic turnout of both mothers and children. They wanted to know the road map that we follow at ACT to help first generation literates become gainfully employed. We had a Q&A session after the Audio Visual Newsletter -2014 had been screened. Footwear for Comfort Birthday Celebrations
Sandals were distributed to all the children of Ulsoor, Government Tamil Higher Primary School and the Hoodi Government Higher Primary school. While we have always been distributing shoes to the children, this year in addition to that, we wanted the children to have safe footwear in the summer holidays. Every year we create desk calendars using the children’s art work. This year’s offering was the children’s depiction of activities in the Trust using Warli art style. Their art teacher held workshops introducing the concept of this ancient rural art form. Every child was gifted a copy of the final calendar. Mindfulness workshops consisting of asanas, pranayama and meditation were started to help children be calm in stressful situations especially with the Final exams around the corner. Kite Flying at the RBANM’s Grounds Goody bag of Provisions for every child
Kite Flying at the RBANM’s Grounds led to lot of fun and friendly mid - air fights between kites. The kids were given a sumptuous breakfast of pongal and vada. AYV final movie screening Unmaad 2015
AYV final movie screening at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall. While ACT students created 5 entries one was unanimously voted by all the children of the Trust as this year’s final entry in the competition. The movie highlighted the need for self- defense training especially for girls. Two of our students were also interviewed by a Bangalore daily since this year’s entry from ACT received a lot of excitement and applause at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall.Click here for photos Unmaad 2015 organised by the sensitive students of IIM B. While we regularly organize Sports events for the children, this year, we decided to organize a unique sports day for their mothers. 32 mothers participated: Lemon and Spoon race, Tug-of-War, Musical Chairs and Relay were the hot favourites. The mothers ended the event with spontaneous dancing to the tune of popular Tamil film music. What’s new at the Government School? ACT Annual Day Party
Our corporate sponsors organized 2 days of interaction with the children of the Government School. This included a marathon clean-up of the Fruit and Flower orchard that we are developing there, and fun filled games and computer literacy classes for the children and teachers.Click here for photos. ACT Annual Day 2014 Presentation by ACT Students at CGI
Our Chief Guest Vandita Sharma, IAS. Other Guests of Honour were: Ananth Narrain of RBANM’s Charities, Ramesh, the Block Education Officer, Dr. Harshvardhan of the Government Public Health Department and Ramdass of Vijaya Bank. The annual day creates a platform for donors and sponsors to meet up with the children and know of their progress from family members and volunteers. We showcase the talents of the children through the audio-visual annual report created by them, and the variety entertainment. The children’s families get a chance to thank the many strangers who have been responsible for their growth and development. Mintu is the little mongrel who adopted us a year ago. The children organized his birthday party, complete with birthday card and a cake with one lit candle which one of the children blew for the dog. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Learning Flow Of English (24-08-14)
Our volunteer, Pramila Shetty and her team conducted an introductory workshop on the Primary series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. The workshop included the Suryanamaskara, asanas, and meditation practice. Click here for photos Flow Of English is an excellent software for teaching English to first generation literates. Developed by an ex-IITan, the software uses interactive methods to help learn the correct phonetics, words, their meanings, and sentence construction. We organized workshops for the senior children of the trust so that they could teach the kindergarten children English, as part of their mentoring program. Click here for photos

Vijay Sharma, noted raconteur, narrated stories dramatically leaving our children spellbound. There were sections where he invited the children to participate by enacting sections or giving twists and turns to the plots. Click here for photos As part of our empowerment and employability program, all the college- going children were given an orientation in Database management systems. Of the 10 children who underwent the introductory session, a few interested girls further scaled up their knowledge base by taking on several practical training using live examples of the Trust. Volunteer Vibha Jain organized a trip to the HAL Museum for the ACT children followed by lunch ( noodles, Gobi Manchurian and cake ) The TCS World 10k Run where our children participated along with Fossil our corporate Care Supporter.
AYV Summer Camp It’s application time @ ACT
Movie Making workshop conducted by Mentor Satyanarayana of America India Foundation. The 30 hours’ workshop inspired our high school and college going children to write scripts, learn camera techniques, act, edit and more... Parents eager to educate their children approach us for help. This will lead to a decade long association with ACT. A journey of ups and downs ending in entry to main stream society. The admission process ends with a formal mother’s meeting where mothers and children are introduced to all the other members of the trust, including Teachers, Administrators and the other children of the trust.
Construction of Tamil Government School Warli Art Painting at our Resource Center
As school reopened, ACT gifted the children of the Government Tamil School with a renovated set of toilets with running water facilities. The senior children painted the wall of the Resources Center and decorated it with Warli Art, ably guided by their art teacher Smitha Kaushik.
ACT's Birthday!! Result Day!
ACT turned 14 on the 1st of April 2014. We celebrated it with a Paani Puri party! The cake was cut by Waseem an ACT Alumni, who gifted every child with noodles. Waseem narrated how noodles were his favourite snack when at ACT. So his way of celebrating was to provide the snack to the current generation of ACT kids ...At 24, Waseem floated his own event management company recently. The D Day at ACT is 10th April when the children and their mothers greet us with their Final Progress Reports for the academic year. Children were gifted for improvement in their previous performances and their overall behaviour.
Picnic with Liverpool Football Club! Parents' Meeting
On the 25th Anniversary of the Liverpool football stadium stampede the Bangalore based unit of the club spent time with 30 ACT children. They took the children to the Orion Mall to watch the movie "Rio 2". This was followed by lunch and a trip through the amusements at the Mall. To herald the new academic season The Hippocampus programs were explained to them so that they would ensure the correct attendance of their respective children during the summer vacations.
Birthday Celebrations and Fun with FOSSIL! Goverment Tamil School Painting and Renovation of Toilets:
Birthday celebrations were conducted with the traditional cake, samosas, and chips. Volunteers from Fossil added to the fun and festivity. They spent an afternoon with the children. They cleaned up and painted the Learning Center, played Games, taught dance and improved the garden at the Learning Center. Work continues at the Murphy Town School to gift the little children with a clean and safe school with hygienic toilets and good water supply. On the 26th of April ACT collaborated with the UGLY Indian to paint the walls of the Tamil govt school.
Movie Day: Hippocampus Workshop
Summer holidays were greeted with an in-house movie time at our Resource Center complete with chocolates and snacks. Entrance test for Hippocampus - We have recently collaborated with Hippocampus Learning Centers Pvt. Ltd to improve the basic Maths and English in our children who are first generation literates. This is in continuation with our Foundational Maths and English Programs
Enfold Classes Art and Craft By PWC Volunteers
Sex Education and Personal Safety classes were held for all the children over 5 workshop days. The youngest participant was 4 years old and the oldest, in college. The classes helped the children learn about their rights and the ways in which they could protect themselves from abuse of any kind. The classes were interactive and had lots of audio-visual aids The children had great fun dancing, making pretty things with origami, and tending to our plants. The volunteers also had time to build employability skills in college going children.

What’s new at the Murphy Town Government School? Felicitation in Mumbai by iVolunteers
Health and Sanitation measures were taken at the school. Health talks about personal safety and menstrual hygiene for 70 girls from the Tamil School and the nearby Telugu and Kannada schools as well. Under the aegis of the Department of Health and Sanitation the workshop was conducted by Doctors Ramamani and Richa along with Dietician, Rajashekharan. The girls enjoyed the movie created by the Government Department and the AV on balanced diet . Nearly 110 packets of sanitary napkins were distributed to the school authorities. What’s new at the Murphy Town Tamil School? Christmas Carols at the HYATT Hotel
Classes have started in full swing. We now have volunteers who take classes regularly. The teachers have been given steel cupboards to store their teaching aids, stationery, and utility items. Annual Christmas lunch Mysore trip for senior children
Annual Christmas lunch for all the children and their families. A 6ft. tall Christmas tree festooned with decorations brightened up our little Resource Center. Traditional biryani, plum cake and kheer made for a yummy lunch. Blankets were distributed to all the children to help them face the cold winter.Click here for photos. 34 children, 3 mothers and 3 volunteers were invited to stay at the Infosys Mysore campus for 3 days and 3 nights. The children and mothers were captivated by the greenery, pollution-free surroundings, tranquility, hospitality, and comfort at the campus. They were treated like royalty by the staff there. The trip gave the children the focus to work hard in life to meet their goals, with the hope that one day they would have the right education to work in companies like Infosys. We also took them to Bulmurri falls, Sangam,  Belur, Halebid, Chamundi Hills, St. Philomena’s Church.Click here for photos.

What’s New at the Murphy Town school Annual Day celebrations
The Library and Computer Lab were set up at the Murphy Town School. The AditiMallya School donated their old furniture to set up reading areas, 2 computers. JyotiThyagarajan organized people to repair and polish the kadappah floor. This new Room was inaugurated by the Block Education Officer. He also planted a sapling in the Garden Area. Tacoma, Neem, Ashoka, Peepal, Gulmohar, Papaya, Banana, Sapota saplings were also planted. Volunteers from Thomson Reuters spent a hard day digging the area, mixing compost and planting the saplings. The Hibiscus that were planted a few weeks ago have started blooming… we are grateful to our regular volunteers Safeera and Namrata for spearheading the whole event, and Karuna for the saplings. A group of 9 mothers and 1 father who had always walked that extra mile for the children were specially commended. Our children were invited to dance at the MahaSaptami puja at the Durga Puja Celebrations organized by the Bengalee Association at RBANM’s grounds. The children danced to DhitangDhitang Bole, jibon, and Rabindranath Tagore’s AgunerPoroshmoni. The dances were choreographed by ladies of the association.Click here for photos
Big Hearts for little Dreams - The Taj Wishing Wall Coffee Day- Dreams
The TajVivanta Hotel invited 42 children to share their little dreams with the employees of the Hotel. These wishes were granted and the kids were invited to a special party where each employee personally handed over a gift to a child.Click here for photos Café Coffee Day invited 35 children to share their dreams which were personally granted by their employees. Personnel from the café chain came over to our Resource Center to hand over these gifts to each child.
Computer Literacy The Murphy Town School
26th October - Middle school children were taught how to start and shut down a computer, how to write documents and save them in an organized manner.Click here for photos - Set1, Set 2 2 Groups of Volunteers, one from Deloitte and the other from Thomson Reuters spent several hours de-weeding the Garden area in the Tamil Higher Primary School at Murphy Town. The school building was cleaned up. One room was re-painted in order to create a Library and Computer Lab.

Candle Making Events by Thomson Reuters
October 19,20 - Our children turned out beautiful candles of different colours, shapes and sizes. Some were multi coloured chunk candles. Click here for photos 26th October - Thomson Reuters conducted a series of activities with our children. We have a Foundational Maths Program at our Trust. Thomson Reuters participated in this program by involving the children in fun activities that would facilitate their understanding of Maths.
Lunch by Shanti Sagar First Aniversary - Indranagar Ashraya Satellite Center
Shanti Sagar, Ulsoor lake branch sponsored lunch for the children. ACT follows the WHO’s Community Participatory Model , giving the “haves” of the local community the opportunity to empower the “have nots” in any way they can. Our model is for the people, by the people and of the people of the local community. We are grateful to Shanti Sagar food chain for sponsoring a special meal for all the children of our Trust. The Law and I Lunch in memory of Sonia Chugani
A group of Law students from National Law School of India University (NLSIU) conducted a series of role plays to promote awareness among our children and their mothers about their various Rights. These role plays addressed issues like domestic violence, fraud, Dowry problems, Right to Information. Click here for photos. Sonia Chugani passes away. Our donor of many years passed away after battling cancer for a long time. Her family organized a few meals for our children in her memory.

25 children have been inducted into the Trust from the Indranagar satellite center. AXA BS Day of Service Citrix Day of Service
Volunteers from AXA BS spent the afternoon reading stories with the children. The AXA volunteers also spent a couple of hours educating the mothers of our children about saving money in the Bank instead of relying on local lotteries. They also helped them in creating family budgets and plan for the future. Volunteers made paper bags with our children. Presentation skills, story- telling, drawing and painting were other fun activities for the day. Click here for photos.
Mothers' Meeting Our first Monday meeting for the academic year
These meetings are held every quarter to sensitize the mothers to the growing –up issues faced by their children. We try to create a sisterhood and community partnership amongst them.Click here for photos. We have meetings every Monday with all the children of the Trust. During these meetings the children get to interact with each other. Disciplinary issues are discussed with the senior children so that the children can get a direction. We have a parliamentary system of governance with a Head Girl, 12 Prefects and Monitors for every class. his year only one girl graduated from Ashwini Charitable Trust. Veneetha passed out of St. Joseph’s College of Commerce with a I class in B.Com.. She is currently employed with Standard Chartered Bank as an Operations Officer. We had a very moving send off for her and a celebration with her parents at our Resource Center.Click here for photos. Vaccination Program Marathon

Cricket Coaching Photography Workshop

Birthday Celebrations Beautician training
On the last Saturday we organized a party for all the ACT children whose birthdays fall in April. The children blew the candle and cut a huge cake amidst loud singing of the Birthday song. Everybody was fed cake and jam sandwiches. The birthday children were also gifted small cakes to take home and celebrate with their families.Click here for photos. Protein Mix Distribution of stationery and shoes
This healthy home- made porridge mixture is prepared at our premises by the mothers themselves. It has all the nutrients and vitamins that growing children need. Each child gets 400 gms of the powder once in 3 weeks in individual PET bottles. The children have it at home before their day at school. Click here for photos. Workshop on Self-Identity, Career Paths and Entrepreneurship Happy Results
Workshop on Self-Identity, Career Paths and Entrepreneurship was conducted by Nandini Das Ghoshal of Insights and More, a Singapore based company which conducts market research for corporate houses and builds entrepreneurship in various strata of people. 17 college going children attended the 2 - day workshop and gained valuable insights about how to create career road maps for themselves. Click here for photos. Final Exam Results were announced for all the schools, I PUC children and our college going children. We are very proud to announce that almost all our children have passed, except for 5 middle school students who have to face a re-exam in 1 or 2 subjects.

Veneetha S. scored an aggregate of 62% in B.Com. and Swathi V. scored 68% in II semester at St. Joseph’s College of Commerce.

2 December 2012 - Thomson Reuterscelebrated their CSR by spending many Sundays with our children ( spread between October and December). These weekends were a unique combination of entertainment and education. They also spent a day cleaning up our computers. They also organised a sports day on 2nd December. Deloitte Post ANNUAL Day Bash for the children
23 November 2012 - Deloitte  spent a day cleaning up our library, computer lab and painting our main hall. They ended the day of service by treating our children to a visit to the Planetarium. The snacks were made by the volunteers themselves… and tasted truly awesome. Novermber 2012 - For many years now ACT would take all the children to the RBANMs grounds where with the help of volunteers we would have a display of fireworks. However, this year we decided to celebrate Diwali with a Rangoli competition. 80 children and some mothers participated covering the entire road outside with pretty designs. Exhibition of handicrafts Cultural Exchange with UK students
November 2012 - Price Waterhouse Coopers invited our children to put up an exhibition of their handicrafts: the kids displayed a beautiful array of candles, fashion jewellery, and paper bags.7 and 8 november 8 October 2012 - Cisco organised a special Telepresence session between our children and two schools in Britain. The 3 teams had to speak about their life as students, their dreams and aspirations. 5 October 2012 - We are grateful to Medha Gupta, Shajjah and the team from Taj for creating a unique “Wishing Wall of Happy memories” for our children. The children were invited for a special party where their little dreams were granted. Adobe Youth Voice Mothers’ Empowerment Program
Satyanarayanan of American India Foundation mentored the children in several workshops in the making of short films, animations and documentaries. 30 children were selected and divided into 5 teams.

Each team had to create a story around their lives, script them, write the story boards for them and then finally make the movies using a high end video camera.

The entries were screened and then all the ACT children voted the Horror Story (based on the children’s fears of ghosts.

The American India Foundation and the Adobe Youth Voices selected the best entries from 25 participating schools and NGOs and screened them at the Chowdiah Hall. We are waiting for the final results of the competition to be announced. Photos - Set 1, Set 2, Set 3

Begun a year ago, our mothers’ empowerment program has been very successful. We now have 3 mothers helping us in the administration of the programs. They have 3 designated portfolios.

1. Procurement Officer: Buys and maintains all supplies required for the smooth running of the programs. This also entails maintenance of accounts for the same. Participates in advocacy of the Trust around the neighbourhood and at the schools where the children study.

2. Administrative Clerk: Helps in Bank work including depositing and withdrawing money on behalf of the Trust. Helps mothers in depositing money in the Bank and maintaining their passbooks. Attends to phone calls and visitors. Helps in filing work.

3. House Mother: Supervises the preparation and distribution of snacks and meals for the children. She also maintains the Learning Centre.

Murphy Town Satellite Center Whitefield RG HalliSatellite Center
We have also started a similar initiative in the Tamil Higher Primary school. We are grateful to Chandramouleeshawaran of SBI, PBB for catalysing the whole operation and to the Head Mistress, Helen Mary for generously welcoming our interventions. We started our operations at the Government School at Ramagondanahalli. Anil Gupta made it possible to gather volunteers in the nearby residential communities. The school is upto class VII and in Kannada medium. Our volunteers spend time teaching English, and Maths besides playing board games and improving the children’s communicational skills. Barfi... World Literacy Day
30 Sept 2012 - “Barfi ”the movie - 30 children were treated to the amazing movie at the Lido Mall 8 Sept 2012 - Pricewaterhouse Coopers distributed notebooks made out of recycling their own used and shredded paper. Reading Program Vaccination Program
Since our children are first generation literates we believe that English Reading will enhance their academic performance. Our goal is to help the children gain proficiency in the English language so that when they reach high school they are able to handle academics independently. Mothers Meetings Birthday celebrations
Held every quarter we sensitize these underprivileged semi-literate women in parenting. Some of the issues discussed are: sensitive disciplinary measures, felicitating top scorers at the final exams, health care, hygiene etc. Click here for photos. On the last Saturday of every month we celebrate the birthdays of the children whose birthdays fall in a particular month. They cut huge cakes amidst loud singing of the birthday song. We also give a small cake for these children to take home and celebrate with their family. Over the year, some corporate houses participated in these celebrations. Young Managers... Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
23 July 2012 - we have a parliamentary system of administering the Resource Center. We have appointed a Head Girl, Assistant Head Girl, 10 Prefects and Monitors for  every class. The children’s parents were invited for the Investiture Ceremony. The Students Parliament is responsible for the children’s attendance,discipline, distribution of snacks, food and other goodies. They also monitor the children’s academic performance. Click here for photos. 20 July 2012 - 25 children were auditioned over Telepresence and then allotted roles that fit in with this very successful children’s fiction. We had 2 very young directors from USA to take care of the acting and costumes. There was a series of events in connection with the final performance at the Cisco cafeteria. There was a full Dress Rehearsal for the parents the day before the show at the same venue. The parents had tears in their eyes watching their children speak in English and act effortlessly before a huge audience. The Final  performance was a huge success.Click here for photos.

Career Aspirations AshrayaSatellite Center
16 May 2012 - The 4 teams were such a big hit that the children were invited once again to make these presentations this time to Debbie Gross, John Chambers’ second in command. 8 May 2012 - We started our first satellite center at Ashraya, in Indiranagar. Grand Finale... Applied Micro - Annual Day
7 May 2012 - Another year of meeting the Mission: 3 girls graduated this year: Renuka K. and Kasthuri R. passed out of St. Joseph’s College of Commerce with B. Com. and Sangeetha R. passed out with a B.A. from St. Anne’s Degree College for Women. We organised a special party for the girls and their mothers at the Resource Center. They cut a special cake and bid adieu to dependency on ACT. The mothers spoke to all the children and their mothers, about the 10 year journey their girls had traversed as a child of ACT. They reaffirmed that education is the only way in which the children can integrate with mainstream society seamlessly. 4 May 2012 - Applied Microinvited us to participate in their Annual Day: A medley of dances was choreographed by some of our volunteers with a patriotic flavour. Using informative and interactive media Dr.Parameshwaran and Dr.Salim A. Khatib created rapport with these underprivileged families and extended their services to them
Career Aspirations...  
26 April 2012 - Cisco Systems invited our children to make presentations on their career aspirations. 20 children were divided into 4 teams. Each team had to create power point slides and make presentations on topics related to their future dreams. The topics were: HR, Finance, Accounts, and Administration. The children had to research about the road map in each of these departments and then present them to  Cisco women’s employees. Click here for photos. 20 April 2012 - In a unique fund raising initiative, CGI invited four of our senior girls to make presentations to their employees. Each girl was given a topic to speak about, for example: family background, dreams, life as a college student, memories associated with ACT.  The girls inspired and motivated many of the CGI employees to help us either by way of sponsoring the education of some children or by volunteering their time with us.
National Gallery of Modern Art “ Happy Birthday Dear ACT”
19 April 2012 - AXA BS took our children to the National Gallery of Modern Art followed by a visit to their office. January 2012 - we celebrate the birthdays of the children on the last Saturday of every month. Children whose birthdays fall in the month cut a huge cake. We also gift them a small cake to cut at home with their family. Chocolate, chips, and cookies for all complete the dream event.Click here for photos.

Visit to Gemini Circus... Mysore Trip...
December 2011 - RED FM92.7and their team of producers, RJs and others treated all our children and their mothers to a visit to the Gemini circus. This was a first ever trip to any circus, and a truly wonderful Christmas eve gift! December 2011 - 30 middle school children and senior girls along with 5 mothers and volunteers were invited to stay on the Infosys campus for a few days. We are extremely grateful to Infosys and their Hospitality team for treating us all like visiting dignitaries. We also visited Talakkad, Belur and Halebid during the trip.Click here for photos.

The theme of this Annual Day was the Feelingsthe children associate with the Trust. We are grateful to our volunteer, Preeti Rai for organising a unique birthday party- the first after the sad demise of Vishnuvardhan. Actress Bhavana spent a couple of hours interacting with our children. She spoke to the children about the challenges, the hard work, the grime behind the glamour of the silver screen.

For the third consecutive year State Bank of India selected some of our girls for sponsorship taking the total to 8 girls this year.

Cisco organised a unique Telepresence between our senior girls and their counterparts in USA. They discussed various topics like friendship, Homework, etc.

Goldman Sachs observed one more year of Community Team Works with the children of ACT. This involved 14 days of fun, laughter, food and learning. This year’s star attractions were: 4 Excursions to: Lalbagh Botanical gardens, Nandi Hills,Parle G Factory,The Big Banyan Tree.The indoor activities included fun with Maths, English, Word Games, History Day, Origami, etc..

AXA Business Services has partnered with ACT. Besides organising a marathon in the UK which would help raise funds for the ACT kids, AXA employees will volunteer 2 hours a week teaching our children academics, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. 30 volunteers visited the center to kick off the season’s volunteering.

Shashikala, one of ACT supported children is going to 3rd year Bachelor of Computer Application in June 2009. In her fourth semester exam she stood 2nd in her class with an aggregate of 92% and next year would like to beat the boy who stood 1st.         On 13th March,ARM Embedded Technologies Pvt. Ltd inaugurated their new office in Bangalore. Prince Andrew, the Duke of York was present and pledged 2000 hours of volunteering time from ARM employees to ACT.
